Carlos Gonçalves graduated from the New University of Lisbon (UNL).
He began his career within the research and development teams at Portugal Telecom. In January 1993, he joined Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking (SG CIB) in the department responsible for information systems dedicated to equity and index derivatives. Over the course of his career, he held various responsibilities in product management and architecture, contributing to the design and development of numerous systems within SG CIB.
In 2007, he was appointed Global Head of Technology for equity and index derivatives. In 2009, he became Deputy Global Head of Information Systems at SG CIB. In 2011, he was appointed Global Head of Information Systems for Société Générale Corporate & Investment Banking. From 2013 onward, his scope was expanded to include oversight of all information systems for the Private Banking division, as well as those of Securities Services and Asset Management activities. In 2016, he became Head of IT Infrastructure for the Société Générale Group and joined the bank’s executive committee. In 2022, he was appointed Global Chief Information Officer of the Société Générale Group, a position he held until 2024.
As of May 20, 2026, Carlos Gonçalves has been appointed director of RCI Banque.
